It's Indie Month at Central Co-op, when we celebrate how independent business benefit our communities through innovation and values-based practices.
Another example of independent business putting values above profit is how the indie ranchers and fishers we work with make their concerns about animal welfare and sustainability part of how they do business. For example, the members of the Lummi Island Wild cooperative are dedicated to the respectful and responsible harvesting of wild salmon through the use of reefnetting, while the members of the North Cascades Meats cooperative keep their animals on pasture out of concern for the animals' welfare and their customers health. We are grateful that our shoppers return the favor by supporting indie businesses!
