Our Blueprint For Cooperative Growth

Hello, Central Cooperators.

Last year, the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) helped raise the profile of the cooperative business model. Consumers, workers, producers, government officials, and other stakeholders heard about the value of organizations that engage markets with services and values as ends, instead of profit maximization. While cooperatives have garnered increased awareness, the model is still misunderstood and overlooked by many. In order to build on the momentum of the IYC, the International Cooperative Alliance has issued a visionary challenge to cooperatives worldwide in the form of a Blueprint for a Cooperative Decade. Here is an excerpt containing the main goals of the blueprint:

We aim for the cooperative form of business, by 2020, to become:

  • The acknowledged leader in economic, social and environmental sustainability
  • The model preferred by people
  • The fastest growing form of enterprise
