Landlord Improvement Project Update for July

Our landlord's project at the front of the store is continuing! On Friday, July 14, we received the pieces of reclaimed lumber that will become the treads of our new grand stair case at the front of the store! We are very excited about these pieces of wood.

When we found out that we would be getting a new staircase, and that it would be built into the new front entry-way of the store we knew that it should be special. After talking about how important the feeling at the front of our store is to us, our landlord graciously allowed us to choose the material for the stairs ourselves! So, we set about looking for a material that would be natural, sustainable, inviting, and beautiful. There was only one clear choice: reclaimed wood.

Ross Burtness, founder of Surface Theory, was able to lead us straight to the perfect treads - available through a sawmill in Tacoma. The pieces he found for us are White Oak that were originally part of a giant shipping container that arrived in the Pacific Northwest via Bremerton. They aren't even finished yet and they are beautiful! Ross delivered them to us himself this afternoon and then he and the Super on the job hand-loaded each piece individually into the job site. It was a huge effort - each one weighing around 150 pounds!

At this point, it looks like the staircase will finally be open in October. We can't wait to see them finished, installed, and welcoming you to our brand new storefront!
